Lanzarote Travel Guide and Tips

Heading for Lanzarote in the Canaries this autumn? You´ll be pleased to know that even in October the weather here is still fantastic. Making it an ideal spot for a late break.

Most tourists who visit the island start their journey in the UK as this is Lanzarote´s biggest source of tourist guests. Largely due to the fact that there are loads of cheap flights to Lanzarote available these days online and from companies such as easyJet. Especially if you are located in the south east of the country and can fly from one of the three main London airports, Gatwick, Stansted or Luton.

On arrival visitors encounter what at first glance appears to be an arid and bare island with little in the way of vegetation. This is down to the fact though that there is very little rainfall here to spoil the plans of holidaymakers. And once in the main resorts there are plenty of tropical trees, plants and shrubs adding colour against the backdrop of the white washed buildings.

If it’s your first time on the island and you have booked independently make sure to arrange a Lanzarote airport transfer for when you touch down. As otherwise you will find yourself stuck in a sizeable queue for taxis. Especially if you are taking your holidays in Lanzarote during the summer months.

There are plenty of great places to stay ranging from eco friendly fincas through to luxury villas and hotels. Most of which can be found in and around the three main holiday resorts of Costa Teguise, Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca. A simple glance online reveals the full array of options and prices on the island are in fact much less expensive than say in the Balearics. In part reflecting the fact that the holiday season here lasts all year round as opposed to just four months of the year.

The journey time from the UK is just four hours and the island is also patronised by tourists from mainland Spain, Germany and the Scandinavian nations such as Norway and Sweden. Sports tourism is also big news here as Lanzarote is an ideal place for athletes to get some winter training sessions done. And every May the island plays host to the Iron Man, which attracts over 1000 super fit entrants from around the world. Who tackle a tough course comprising a 3km swim, 180km bike ride and a full marathon to top it all off.
