Tenerife is not only the largest, but the most populated of seven Canary Islands. This is a very popular and well-known island. Santa Cruz de Tenerife is the capital of Tenerife and Tenerife is the capital of Spain. This island also has a few volcanoes. There has been four known ruptures in the years past and thankfully no casualties has been recorded.
Many people go on holiday to Tenerife so they can experience the various attractions. This island has one of the world’s largest carnivals. This popular carnival is known as Carnival Santa Cruz de Tenerife. This carnival is nationally and internationally known and because of its popularity it has been declared a Festival of International Tourist interest. Although, this carnival can be viewed in the northern or southern parts of the island, Santa Cruz is the place to go for this ten day festival. There are two parts to this carnival. The first part is specific to those individuals that are performing. There are many musical band performers, masquerades and so much more to view while there. Also, during this period a queen of the festival is selected. Once the queen has been chosen, the second part of the Carnival begins. In this part, everyone is free to participate. Viewers take to the street at the centre of Santa Cruz to have fun and dance to the music. Another major festival is called Pilgrimage. This is a religious festival for both Christians and non-Christians. This Festival consists of dancing, food made by the natives, folkloric activities, sports and many other activities.
Tourism is the biggest industry in Canaries. Each year approximately five million tourist head to Tenerife for vacation. When tourist come to the island they usually head to the south where it is hotter and they stay in the two lovely resorts called Los Cristianos and Playa de las Americas. While in Tenerife another place to visit would be El Teide. El Teide is the highest point in Spain and also the world’s third largest volcano. With more than two million visitors each year this volcano is the most visited national park in Spain.
In Tenerife there are many sites to see and activities to be a part of. This island is filled with adventure and is definitely a place that could never be forgotten. Tenerife is an all around exciting place to visit. The fun here never seems to come to an end.
